Artist Statement

 

What began as an attraction to early 20th century advertising has led to a fascination with commercial art past and present, and become an endless source of imagery and inspiration for me as an artist.  I find it interesting to see how the media molds the viewer and try to reflect in my work how these images have impacted myself on a personal level and American culture as a whole.  Each work is a collage of images and texture chosen because of their relation to each other and a central idea.  They include a variety of subjects, including fashion, travel, love, and self image.  I like to think they capture the “kitschy” elements of advertising while triggering some memory or sentiment in the viewer.
